Church House Library

Over the years, First United Presbyterian Church has collected a collection of secular and spiritual books that it shares with the greater Atlantic community. These books are avaliable for anyone to come look at and check out. The library is avaliable Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Global M ission

We participate in Missions of The Presbyterian Church USA, including the following offerings:Rural Partnership, One Great Hour of Sharing, Pentecost Offering, Peacemaking Offering and Joy Gift.  We give in both time and financial support to Presbytery of Des Moines ministries including Our Sister's Parish in El Salvador, and C.R.O.S.S.

Beginning with the Summer of 2012, we started an annual mission project in hopes of helping local and regional families.

In July of 2012, we took nine amazing volunteers to Joplin, Mo to help with diaster clean up, and rebuilding. In 2013 and 2014, we helped local families paint and fix up their homes.

In August of 2015, nine church members visited our sister parish in El Salvador. They visited the families that had received water treatment equipment as the result of our noisy can offering.

Local M ission

As a Community, we celebrate and give thanks for the gifts of God. We seek to use those gifts of time, talent, and treasure to better the world right outside our doors. We do this through warm coat and glove drives, school supply projects, "Adopt a Familiy" Christmas project, participation in community events such as Crop Walk and serving summer lunch at the local YMCA, serving a community weekly meal on a monthly basis, and through the ecumenical benevolence fund. Our latest local mission is "Loads of Love". Church members visit a local laudromat and provide free wash and dry for anyone that stops in. We are teachers, prayer warriors, listener, and seekers.

Living Waters

We see change in many different forms.  Our schools change, the seasons change, and our communities change.  During our Lenten study in 2012 our lives changed.  We learned more about clean water and what a positive change it makes in the lives of others.

As an out growth of our study, we started making change in the world by helping fund clean water tanks and filtration devices for a community in El Salvador.  Our mission committee, as approved by session, began a noisy offering once a month with funds to go toward providing clean water for another community.

We encourage you to begin saving your change.  How much?  A guide might be two cents a meal or six cents a day.  We’ll be providing cans to families that would like to participate. Bring those cans to the second service of each month.  We’ll have the kids collect the coins during the service and pour them into a large container.

Our change can make a difference.  We hope you’ll join in and help change our world!
To date we have provided 36 water tanks and are well on our way to the 70 we need.
